Lebanon needs your help! In a blink of an eye everything changed for thousands of Lebanese people. On August 4th, an explosion shook the heart of Beirut, claiming hundreds of lives, wounding more than 4,000 people, and damaging 70,000 homes leaving 300,000 people homeless. Beirut was shattered, its building collapsed, three hospitals in the area destroyed and other nearby hospitals damaged, homes and businesses destroyed. The destruction is estimated at over 15 billion dollars. Hospitals are now at full capacity, crippling with a lack of funding and supplies. The damaged port area is Lebanon's main route for imports; it housed a silo that contained 120,000 tons of grains that was fully destroyed. The grains are vital to help feed a nation of more than 6 million people andimports nearly all of its food. This catastrophe hit Lebanon in the midst of a devastating economic crisis, a financial crisis, a political crisis, and a health crisis heightened by the Corona virus pandemic. We are raising funds for three nonprofits that are offering crucial help on the ground!
Who are the nonprofits we are supporting? We are funding nonprofits that are offering debris removal, food, shelter and medical assistance.
The nonprofits that were nominated by our members:
- Maak: food distribution, cleaning/minor repair to damaged homes and businesses - Hand & Heart: debris clean up, distribution of food and essentials, and on-ground crisis relief efforts - St George Hospital: small clinics in the vicinity of the damaged area to offer medical assistance - National Impact: Volunteer movement to clean up debris and help rebuild small businesses - Geitaoui Hospital - Al MakassedPhilanthropic Islamic Association of Beirut
N.B. All the nonprofits above have undergone a rigorous review process. They all have a strong track record and are not affiliated with any political group.
During our Zoom meeting, you will listen to a brief presentation from all 6 nonprofits. You will then have a chance to vote for 1 of the 6 nonprofits presented. The total amount raised will be equally distributed to the 3 selected nonprofits.
How are we delivering funds? The nonprofits will receive funds through ARDNA Foundation a US 501C3 (your donation is tax deductible).
